EigenLayer announced it has launched successfully on Ethereum mainnet. The launch also included a data availability service called EigenDA, aiming to help other blockchain apps store transaction data (competing with chains like Celestia).
The protocol has a current TVL of $13.58 billion which puts it in the No2 spot of the Ethereum ecosystem. It works by allowing users to restake their already staked $ETH in exchange for rewards. The launch did not include features like in-protocol payments to operators such as apps and cross-chain bridges. EigenLayer said it would allow its marketplace to “develop and stabilize” before introducing in-protocol payments and slashing later this year.
